Northwest's College Counseling department works with Northwest School juniors, seniors, and their families through the college search process. This process is a wonderful rite of passage as you look ahead towards adulthood and the next step in your education. Whether you plan to pursue a liberal arts college across the country, take advantage of the wonderful educational institutions right here in Washington State, travel overseas to engage in an international community, or pursue something completely different that fulfills a personal goal, the College Counseling Office is available to support you in these endeavors.

The College Counseling Process
Junior Year: 11th Grade
- College Counseling begins in the junior year with the introduction of Naviance/Family Connection to all students and parents. This web-based program allows you to research colleges and universities as well as communicate with the College Counseling Office.
- College advising is expanded during the latter half of your junior year with individual meetings with us to research colleges, begin a college list, and learn more about the ins and outs of the college search process.
Senior Year: 12th Grade
- During the senior year, we'll work together to finalize an appropriate application list based on your academic profile, interests, and personal and academic goals. The NWS College Counseling Office seeks to be personal and personalized in every interaction with students, families, and colleges. Every student and family will be assisted to make informed decisions, meet important deadlines, and complete the college admission process.
College Representative Visits
Representatives from more than 100 colleges and universities visit NWS each fall. Students are invited to attend these upcoming visits during the school day. Click here for a listing of upcoming visits.
Summer, Gap Years & Special Programs
Sophomores and Juniors: Think about your summer plans. Consider a summer program or volunteer experience to expand old interests or explore new ones. The College Office maintains a list of summer programs you may find useful.
If you have decided to pursue other options besides a formal education after NWS, we are also available to talk about these options, be it a formal gap year program, a volunteer opportunity, or an overseas experience. Additionally, our office library includes several print resources on Gap Year and other special programs that you are welcome to check-out and review.
We look forward to working with you!
