Ceramic shoes created by Randy Silver's ceramics class are on display through the end of March at the Downtown Nordstrom for the NCECA (National Council on Educators of Ceramic Arts) convention in March.

Last Wednesday afternoon, author Peggy Orenstein spent two periods meeting and talking with Northwest School students. The author of the bestseller Schoolgirls, Orenstein is a nationally-recognized expert on issues that affect girls as they grow up.
Faculty member Curtis Erlinger, who teaches several Visual Arts courses including Public Art, has secured a mural site on Boren Avenue (facing the dog park) and the Visual Arts department is supporting the project—along with the owners of the building. Curtis's Public Art class will be working on the mural in collaboration with local artist Derek Wu, known by his artist name ERAS, and he will be visiting Northwest to brainstorm and draw with the students on March 12th & 14th. Work on the mural will begin later this spring.
TJ Martin, who attended The Northwest School for Middle School, made Oscars' history by being the first African-American to win an Oscar for directing a full-length film, whether documentary or feature. TJ won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature for his film, "Undefeated" on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
The Emerald City League recently released their All League teams for this basketball season: Mariah W. was voted to the girls' All League First Team; Jack B. was voted the boys' Rookie of the Year and Varsity Boys Team received the league's Team Sportsmanship award.

Budding playwright, Frank G. '16, wrote a play this past fall that has been selected to be performed at ACT Theatre's Young Playwrights Festival in March. The play will also be published in an anthology. Frank's play was one of 8 chosen out of the 400+ plays that were written through the ACT Theatre's Young Playwrights Program (YPP) this year.
The Northwest School recently sent four teams (consisting of 3-4 students each) to the Washington State High School Mathematics Championship in Blaine, WA. The competition involves teams competing as a group in mathematical skills ranging from algebra to mental math to trigonometry.
The Northwest School is excited to host the 5th Annual Seattle Gap Year Fair. The fair, free and open to the public, is a great opportunity to explore the myriad of Gap Year options available to students. Gap Years are traditionally taken the year after high school and allow a student to explore a new direction or opportunity. Gap Years can include a variety of locations, structures, and missions.

Partaking in National Signing Day, NWS Senior Maddie M. signed a letter of intent with the University of Washington, joining the storied running program. Her signing culminates a busy recruiting season as she picked the Huskies from the likes of powerhouse running programs Georgetown and Oregon. Congratulations to Maddie!
