Budding playwright, Frank G. '16, wrote a play this past fall that has been selected to be performed at ACT Theatre's Young Playwrights Festival in March. The play will also be published in an anthology. Frank's play was one of 8 chosen out of the 400+ plays that were written through the ACT Theatre's Young Playwrights Program (YPP) this year.

The Northwest School is excited to host the 5th Annual Seattle Gap Year Fair. The fair, free and open to the public, is a great opportunity to explore the myriad of Gap Year options available to students. Gap Years are traditionally taken the year after high school and allow a student to explore a new direction or opportunity. Gap Years can include a variety of locations, structures, and missions.

The Northwest School recently sent four teams (consisting of 3-4 students each) to the Washington State High School Mathematics Championship in Blaine, WA. The competition involves teams competing as a group in mathematical skills ranging from algebra to mental math to trigonometry.
Partaking in National Signing Day, NWS Senior Maddie M. signed a letter of intent with the University of Washington, joining the storied running program. Her signing culminates a busy recruiting season as she picked the Huskies from the likes of powerhouse running programs Georgetown and Oregon. Congratulations to Maddie!
Congratulations to Mia B., who was recently voted by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Associated second team All State defender for Fall 2011 1A Girls' Soccer!
Ceramic shoes created by Randy Silver's ceramics class will soon be on display at the Downtown Nordstrom. The shoes will probably be on display in the front windows—be sure to look for them next time you're downtown!
As of February 9, members of the class have indicated to the college office that they intend to submit 629 applications to 200 different colleges. Additionally, 56 students have been awarded 94 offers of admission to 54 different colleges. Offers of admission have been received from:
Upper School Basketball teams went 5-0 on Saturday, January 28, pulling in wins in some very close games!
With just minutes left in the Varsity Boys' game against Auburn Adventist, Charlie T. hit a 30-footer—sending the game into overtime. The team went on to win 65-59 in OT.
Join us for "Unity (1918)" and let NWS students take you on an unforgettable journey that is funny and touching, romantic and tragic. This production follows the small town of Unity as they cope with the ravages of WWI and the increasing danger of the flu epidemic.
The play is directed by Ellen Graham with original music by Sulo Turner. The set is designed by Bill Johns, and built by his Technical Theater class, with lights by Emma Wolf-Saxon.

Math Teacher Thomas Elliott, and Theatre and Languages Teacher Jen Kulik, were each recently awarded a Distinguished Fulbright Award in Teaching. As two of only 18 U.S. citizens who were selected for this prestigious award, they will each travel abroad for three to six months to take classes, conduct research, design and lead seminars for host country teachers and students, and engage in other education related activities.
