Communications Manager

The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to 470 students in grades 6 through 12, including 80 international students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Branding & Messaging:

  • Leads and initiates strategic marketing efforts to define brand, marketing messages, and positioning statements.
  • Actively ensures the messages are clear and compelling, differentiating us from competitor schools.

Planning & Execution:

  • Creates an annual school-wide Marketing Plan, and follows through with its execution.
  • Ensures the Plan meets the needs of all stakeholders (Development, Admissions, families, alumni, faculty, the Board of Trustees, etc.) through frequent collaboration and coordination with them.

Public Relations:

  • Actively works with the media and press to position the school as a leader in our field and to execute key messages.
  • Implements social media strategies as appropriate to increase the school’s exposure.

Marketing/Communications Materials:

  • Develops new marketing materials, ensuring a consistent message, look and feel, coordinating with others for revisions, managing vendors, managing budget, setting priorities.
  • Produces current communications, including: weekly E-News, biannual Magazine, Annual Report, Admissions materials, Summer Camp materials, advertising, videos/CD’s/DVD’s.
  • Collaborates with Webmaster to keep the NWS website up-to-date.
  • Responsible for producing and managing publication projects from beginning to end, including conceptualizing, soliciting content, writing/editing, proofreading, and coordinating all phases of layout up to printing and distribution.

Marketing through Leadership:

  • Takes leadership role in creating marketing program at The Northwest School, including working with the Faculty, Board of Trustees, and Board Communications Committee.
  • Drives marketing program to achieve desired marketplace perceptions.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, with three to five years marketing experience primarily in branding and marketing communications, preferably in a non-profit educational setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must have demonstrated experience in writing for publications, both internally and externally.
  • Strong technological skills, working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, graphic design skills a plus.
  • Three to five years of experience in branding, brand execution and management, as well as development and execution of marketing messages.
  • History of leadership in managing and implementing effective marketing communications.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to lead multiple projects under simultaneous deadlines, on time and within budget.
